Anthony A. Otero

Anthony Otero was born and raised in Southern California. He attended Don Bosco Technical High School in Rosemead. While pursuing a business administration degree at Whittier College, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he attained the rank of sergeant and was assigned as a section leader with the 4th Marines Division, Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion. He graduated from Whittier College in 1994 and, soon after, entered the Los Angeles Police Academy. He has been with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for more than 17 years and is currently a sergeant II and aide to the inspector general. Sergeant Otero’s assignments within LAPD have included: officer in charge of the Officer Representation Section, Internal Affairs; Criminal Investigation Section-South gang detective; Wilshire Area field supervisor; Southeast Area narcotics investigator; Central Bureau vice investigator; Hollywood Area gang officer; and Northeast Area field training officer. While working for LAPD, Mr. Otero earned a Master of Public Administration from National University and an Executive Master of Leadership from USC. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Policy, Planning and Development at USC with an expected graduation date of fall 2014. He is married to Deputy District Attorney Araceli Otero; they have three children.
